Atlanta Alumni Chapter – Upper Classman Scholarship Application

Purpose: This scholarship represents the Atlanta Alumni Chapter’s pledge and commitment to assist the University in maintaining quality students from metro Atlanta and surrounding areas of Georgia. IT IS NAMED IN HONOR OF GEORGE G. GEIGER ONE OF TWO SURVIVING FOUNDERS OF OUR CHAPTER.

A NATIVE OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, JUDGE GEIGER IS A 1952 BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION GRADUATE AND SERVED AS THE CHAPTER’S PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT. HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST FOUR AFRICAN-AMERICANS TO ENTER LAW SCHOOL AT THE WOODROW WILSON COLLEGE OF LAW AFTER INTEGRATION AND SHARED MAGNA CUM LAUDE HONORS WITH TWO STUDENTS UPON GRADUATION. JUDGE GEIGER WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN APPOINTED TO SERVE ON THE BENCH AS A REFEREE (LATER NAMED ASSOCIATE jUDGE) FOR THE FULTON COUNTY JUVENILE COURT AND ALSO SERVED AS THE ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR TEN YEARS. hE IS THE FIRST AND ONLY AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE WHOSE PORTRAIT IS NOW DISPLAYED IN THE FOYER OF THE FULTON COUNTY JUVENILE COURT BUILDING, AND HIS NAME IS ON DISPLAY AT THE CENTER FOR CIVIC AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE STATE BAR OF GEORGIA LAW MUSEUM. alumni are convinced that high academic achievers from Georgia are needed on the campus to serve as role models for all students matriculating at the University.

Level of Award: depending upon the applications received, a minimum of two awards will be presented to the deserving students who meet the eligibility criteria.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to university changes in the award payment process of scholarship recipients, funds will not be dispersed until FALL 2021.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, a candidate must:

  • Be an undergraduate student at NC A&T SU from metro Atlanta or surrounding areas of Georgia.
  • Have an accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a scale of 4.0 or higher.
  • Include two recommendation letters: one official (professor, adviser, or administrator) and one non-school official (mentor, coach, minister, or employer).

Options for submitting recommendation letters:

-Teacher/educator can submit PDF letter that has school or district logo.

-Teacher/educator can write/submit recommendation letter via email.

-Non-educators (employer, coach, mentor, etc.) can submit either PDF or email.

**Please do not include letters from relatives**

  • Include a current official copy of your NC A&T SU transcript. Scan or take a photo of your transcript.
  • Include a copy of a senior photo or current headshot and your Banner ID.

Method of Application: All items must be completed AND TYPED for your application to be considered. NO EXCEPTIONS.
